Lab Assignment: Friction and Forces Laboratory: Analysis
- Organizing Data: Calculate the value of the applied force (F) at which the block begins to move for the given surface. Try this with different blocks. Equate this applied force (F) to the frictional force (f), and enter it in the data table. Using the formula, fs=μsmg, calculate μs for different blocks. Repeat the same for another given surface. Enter all readings in the data tables under the experiment I.
- Organizing Data: Calculate the value of the applied force (F) at which the block moves with the constant velocity for the given surface. Try this with different blocks. Equate this applied force (F) to the frictional force ( fk), and enter it in the data table. Using the formula, fk=μkmg, calculate μk for different blocks. Repeat the same for another given surface. Enter all readings in the data tables under the experiment II.
- Organizing Data: Note the value of the acceleration (a) each time you add weights in the weight hanger, and calculate the value of the force acting on the block (m) using the formula F=ma. Enter these values of force in the last column of the data table under experiment III.
