Weight and Normal Force

A force that is perpendicular to the contact surface is called a Normal Force (N)

If the contact surface is perpendicular to to the ground, then the normal force is opposite to gravity as shown below.

If the contact surface is not perpendicular to the direction of gravity, then the normal force is not opposite to gravity . In this case, the normal force is perpendicular to the support surface rather than the ground.

Weight is the force exerted by the gravity on an object.
