Free-Body Diagrams Continued

Now we can study how these forces will go in free-body diagrams.

Example 1: 

The free body diagram for the book lying on a table is shown below. The upward arrow represents the normal force (N) and the downward arrow represents the weight (W).

Example 2: 

A man pulls a bucket with a force as shown. The bucket moves up with acceleration. In this case, the freebody diagram would have a longer arrow pointing up than the one pointing down, indicating the upward acceleration.
