Free-Body Diagrams

Force is a vector which has both magnitude and direction. 

A free-body diagram will help you understand the situation better by identifying different forces on the object. While drawing a free-body diagram, we include only the forces that act on the object and not the force exerted by the object. 

A free-body diagram of an object represents the various forces affecting that object. There are some important forces we need to take a look at first.
